Meet the Artist Painting Nature

Nature is All Around Us In Fine Art Paintings and Drawings

A life shaped by landscapes, light, and the quiet company of nature

I’ve lived in a few corners of the world — Kentucky, Hawaii, Maryland, Costa Rica, Germany and now the soft, rain‑washed hills of West Yorkshire. No matter where I’ve been, I’ve always found myself doing the same thing: noticing the small, quiet moments in nature that most people walk past. A shift of light. A bird pausing mid‑thought. The hush before the weather changes. The way a landscape holds its breath.

  • Painting became the way I gathered those moments and made sense of them.
  • It still is.

A Painter of Quiet Places

I’m drawn to the gentle, unassuming parts of the natural world — the ones that don’t shout for attention. My landscapes aren’t grand or dramatic; they’re the familiar paths, moors, and coastlines of England and Scotland, painted with a sense of stillness and emotional weather.

My florals and trees are small acts of noticing. My bird portraits are little character studies of the neighbours who share our gardens and hedgerows.

  • Collectors often tell me my work feels calm, intimate, or quietly hopeful.
  • I take that as the highest compliment.

A Journey in Colour and Resilience

Before painting full‑time, I spent years in accountancy — a life of numbers, structure, and responsibility. Art was the thing I returned to whenever I needed to breathe. Eventually, it became the thing that helped me rebuild, re‑centre, and rediscover who I actually was.

Over the years, more than 300 of my paintings have found homes around the globe with collectors who connected with the same sense of stillness and warmth that I feel when I paint.

Many of them tell me they “just knew” when a piece was meant for them. I love that. As one collector shared, "There is a gentle sense of peace in Rhia's work that immediately draws you in. Every time I look at my painting, I feel a moment of calm and connection to the world outside my window."

If you are interested in purchasing a painting or commissioning a custom piece, you can explore available works on my website or reach out to me directly through my contact page. I am always happy to discuss commission ideas and guide you through the simple process of choosing or creating artwork that speaks to you.

What Matters to Me

  • Honesty in atmosphere — painting the mood of a place, not just its shape
  • Quiet beauty — the kind that reveals itself slowly
  • Connection — between artist and viewer, between people and place
  • Nature as anchor — steady, grounding, endlessly generous
I don’t paint to impress.

I paint to notice.

And to share that noticing with others who feel the same pull toward the natural world.

From My Studio in West Yorkshire

These days, you’ll find me painting in my home studio, usually with a cup of tea cooling somewhere nearby, a Border Collie named Harvey supervising, and the Yorkshire weather doing whatever it pleases outside the window.

If you would like to see my work in person or simply have a chat about art and nature, I warmly welcome you to get in touch. Personal visits can be arranged by appointment, and I always enjoy connecting with collectors and fellow art lovers.

If my work brings you a moment of calm, a breath of fresh air, or a sense of connection to the world beyond the screen, then I’ve done what I set out to do.

Colourful, emotionally resonant landscapes of Yorkshire, Scotland and beyond

Every original painting is individually signed on the front and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This ensures that each piece is unique and guarantees its origin for collectors.

My contemporary paintings of Yorkshire and Scottish landscapes are distinguished by vivid colour and dramatic light. I work mostly in acrylic and mixed media on gallery-quality canvas and heavy archival paper.

My paintings range from intimate studies as small as 10 x 10 cm to larger statement pieces up to 50 x 70 cm. New works are added to my collection regularly throughout the year, so there is often something fresh to explore on each visit. The variety of materials and sizes allows collectors to find a piece perfectly suited for their space.

I ship paintings securely and with care, both within the UK and internationally. Each artwork is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely at its new home. UK shipping usually arrives within 2-5 working days. For international orders, the delivery takes around 7-15 working days. If you have questions about shipping, delivery times, or international orders, I am always happy to provide more information.

More Insights on the Artist

Rhia's artistic journey began in childhood, where she was captivated by the beauty of nature and inspired by her mother, a hobby artist.

Though she excelled in art throughout her school years, Rhia initially chose a career in accounting, a path she believed offered more stability.

Despite her professional life, her passion for art never faded. She returned to painting as a source of healing and renewal after a period of significant personal challenges.

A pivotal move to Kentucky and a thoughtful gift from her husband reignited her creative spark, leading her to begin selling her work.

Rhia's path then led her to explore different natural environments in Hawaii and Costa Rica, deepening her connection to the landscapes that inspire her art.

Now based in West Yorkshire with her husband and their Border Collie, Harvey, Rhia is a full-time artist whose work proves the transformative power of creativity.

Her enchanting paintings, which celebrate the quiet magic of nature, have found homes with collectors across the globe.
