I had always been a fan of Audrey Tautou's work, especially her portrayal of Coco Chanel in the film "Coco Before Chanel" was impressive. Her beauty, elegance, and charm had always captivated me, and I longed to translate that onto paper.
One day, browsing through my art supplies, I found a blank sheet of Stonehenge vellum finish paper. It was 250 gsm, 9 x 12 inches, and perfect for what I had in mind. Without hesitation, I grabbed my professional-grade colour pencils, "Polychromos" by Faber-Castell, found the right colours, and began to sketch.
I started with the outline of Audrey's face, and as I worked, I noticed that my hand was moving without my conscious control. It was as if my fingers were trying to capture the essence of her beauty on their own. I didn't check for accuracy, nor did I erase anything. I just let my instincts guide me.
As I continued to draw, I began to appreciate the imperfections and nuances of Audrey's face. Her slightly crooked smile, the mischievous twinkle in her eye, and how her hair fell across her forehead. These tiny imperfections made her so captivating, and I wanted to capture that in my drawing.
Hours passed, and I lost track of time as I worked on my sketch. When I finally put down the pencils, I stepped back to examine my work. The portrait "Beautiful Face" of Audrey Tautou had come to life before me, and I was amazed at how it had turned out.
I varnished the drawing with artists' fixative for pencils by Winsor & Newton, and it was ready to be framed. The final size is 23 x 30.5 x 0.1 cm.
This portrait proves how some faces can be so striking that they inspire us to create art. But I have to say that almost all human faces are beautiful in my eyes!
As I look at my finished work, I feel inspired. This sketch reminds me to trust my instincts, embrace imperfections, and appreciate the beauty that can be found in the world around us.
