My North Yorkshire Cottage is a small painting, a tiny canvas of a sunny landscape. It could make a fantastic gift for all Yorkshire lovers.

You may find this house in Reeth, a village in North Yorkshire close to Richmond. Reeth itself is pretty impressive. It has a great village green in the middle of the settlement. It also has a Village Hall, and this house stands slightly elevated and sort of opposite the hall.

In the village hall, there is often live music. Once, my husband and I were lucky to attend one of these events; we were delighted with the music and magical atmosphere inside the hall. 

I have a story to share about my emotions while creating this artwork.

I squinted at the miniature canvas, my brush poised inches from the vibrant scene. Sunlight bathed the cottage, casting long shadows behind it and down its partially ivy-draped walls. The emerald village green stretched before it. Across the green, behind me, the Village Hall stood sentinel, its clock tower glinting like a golden tooth.

It isn't just a painting; it is a memory. One woven from holidays spent in a rural setting, chasing my childhood friends across the green until breathless giggles choked our lungs. Days spent picnicking under the watchful gaze of an old hall, stories whispered by its weathered stones. Now, miles away from the North Yorkshire haven, I poured my recollection onto the canvas, each stroke imbued with the scent of freshly baked bread from the bakery and the warm hum of village life.

The house itself, barely bigger than a cabin, held a special significance. In its crooked chimney and sun-bleached paint, I saw my grandmother's cottage, a sanctuary filled with tales of mischievous pixies and playful fairies. Every detail, from the wonky fence post to the moss-covered well, was a brushstroke of love, a tribute to a woman who'd instilled in me a deep appreciation for the simple beauty of the countryside.

As I finished the final flourish, a wave of satisfaction washed over me. The tiny canvas held the essence of the cottage, its heart and soul captured in miniature. I could almost hear the church bells chime and smell the honeysuckle blooming by the gate. This isn't just a painting; it is a portal, a way to transport any "Yorkshire lover" straight into the heart of the village.
