This new artwork is a vibrant coloured-pencil sketch that shows the calm beauty of the River Aire in North Yorkshire.
I have sketched on acid-free paper with professional-quality coloured pencils.
The picture first catches your eye with a bright green hill. Its grassy texture hints at the start of spring. On top of it, a softly shaped orange-brown hill rises, showing the changing landscape and the earth’s warmer tones as winter ends.
On the far hill, groups of trees stand in silhouettes, while the river flows across the bottom of the scene, reflecting the blue sky and scattered clouds on its smooth surface.
Along the riverbank, bushes and small trees, still bare from the cold of early spring, add fine detail and a quiet sense of waiting.
The whole scene feels peaceful and full of atmosphere, highlighting nature’s renewal and the gentle colours of the new season.
